Having offered a huge range of productions for 17 years, Karnak Playhouse faces its greatest challenge in 2009 - this time when the world braces for the lean time we have been promised – Can we survive?
When expansion stops and fear of deprivation freezes hearts and pockets, theatres and entertainment should be open to give us hope and take our minds off the problems that confront us. We need the diversion of performers who create music and performances that lift us up and send us out into the world with renewed energy.
This is why I have decided to open the Karnak Theatre against all odds this year, hoping that we can bring our usual standard of excellence to tourists and locals alike.
